“I am interested in the concept as much as anything. I love the idea that this ‘end’ is a unit, how it interacts with other units is as much a part of the design as the unit itself. Ultimately then, how somebody interacts with the design describes how it looks and is used. There are many variations and combinations that are possible by simply stacking or turning the shape over.” – JV

Traditionally, door stops present a unique opportunity to create something both sculptural and useful. This interesting design adds functional beauty to what is essentially just a weight to keep doors from slamming shut. The small size option is 6 1/2″ x 4″ x 5″ tall, and has 2 1/4” opening (which should fit most standard doors), made from incredibly strong and durable cast iron or bronze, the 10 lbs. piece is able to maintain a simple elegance with its slender, ring shaped handle and unique channel shaped base. The other option is 9” x 5 1/2” x 5” tall and has a 3 1/4” opening.
Although considered sculpturally as a stand alone piece, the design is only fully realized “in use” as it is meant to celebrate the anchor point at the edge of a door where it meets the floor.

Knives
The Kutty family has a tradition of preserving and using artifacts and tools that were created to be passed down from generation to generation.
The objects come from our ancestral home in Kerala, India, and they travel back and forth with us between Kerala and where we reside now—North Providence, RI, USA. These objects were handmade decades ago with quality and care by local craftspeople, and their utility continues to keep our histories alive.
Kutty Knives mission is to make modern artifacts that extend our family’s tradition to your lives and your homes, as you invite new memories and experiences through the culture of cooking.

Serving Boards
The wood items in Blackcreek Mercantile & Trading Co.’s Blackline Collection utilize a natural reactive process to give them their distinctive dark finish. No pigments are used to create this black color. This unique technique makes use of the tannic acid inherent in white oak to develop a deep, durable, food-safe dye; the source of which comes from within the wood itself.
As with most natural processes, some variation in color is to be expected. Natural dyes will “wear” over time developing a rich patina that is special to the object and how it is being used.
The finish is surprisingly resilient and to some extent “self-healing’. Leaving food to sit on wooden kitchenware for extended periods of time is inadvisable in general. It should be noted that citrus foods and tart berries may affect the natural finish if left to sit on boards or bowls for extended periods of time. We also offer these in a white version.
