Nettie Sumner
Nettie Sumner is a contemporary Australian artist whose work explores the revival of traditional crafts using current methodologies within contemporary contexts.
Sumner’s pieces form a curated and extraordinary collection of hand-knitted wire installations and sculptures using various techniques including hand knitted copper wire and clay to create experimental and captivating finishes.
The larger works are hand knitted in aged copper wire, as well as enameled wire, in diverse palettes and experimental finishes. Her sculptural pieces include ceramics, beaten copper, textiles and wire.
Nettie successfully graduated with a Diploma of Ceramics and Advanced Diploma of Visual Arts in Australia. She is a sculptural artist whose works are 3-dimensional explorations of the resilience and protective nature of seeds, pods and husks.
